Summary: Sampling-Microbiology Technician primarily provides support to QA Team and operations. They are to provide support and perform raw material sampling for incoming dietary components or raw materials including sampling for QC raw material retains, manufacturing aids, closures and packing materials. They are to support Microbiology Lab in the testing of all incoming dietary components or raw materials, manufacturing aids, closures and packing materials per compliance to cGMP, Captek SOPs and Test Methods. They are to maintain Microbiology laboratory and practice high quality aseptic techniques at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Per compliance to cGMP, Captek SOPs, and training, accurately and appropriately, perform all raw material sampling, including sampling for QC raw material retains, while properly documenting in logbooks.
• Doubly inspects the raw material received, noting the condition of the packaging, inspecting for contamination or foreign matter; serves as a secondary check on shipping/receiving and a preliminary check before production.
• Ensures tidiness is maintained in the sampling room at all times. Perform minor and major clean up according to SOP. Ensure sampling room is clean during shift changes.
• Maintains all sampling associated logs including calibration of balance.
• Maintains Shipping and Receiving Quarantine, ensuring that only quarantine material is within the quarantine area.
• Per compliance to cGMP, Captek SOPs and Test Methods, and training, accurately and appropriately performs laboratory tests such as plating, streaking, performing MPN, incubating, and identifying and counting, while properly documenting and reporting the performed test in assigned laboratory notebooks and test reports.
• Assists Microbiologists with Microbial Limits Test (MLT), such as plating, streaking, performing MPN, incubating, and identifying and counting.
• Assists Microbiologists in the preparation of all broth for MLT analysis and perform all associated testing, including Growth Promotion Test.
• Performs MLT on water sample collected in production area and ATP swab test on equipment in production.

Education/Experience: Minimum of Associate’s Degree in Life Sciences, preferably in Microbiology.

Technical Ability: Basic laboratory techniques.

Language Ability: Ability to read and understand SOPs, methods and test procedures. Ability to respond to common inquiries by co-workers, auditors and supervisory personnel as well as communicating with suppliers and vendors, and contract laboratories.

Math Ability: Ability to comprehend and apply principles up to mathematical calculations and algebra. As needed, ability to work with concepts such as limits, fractions/percents, orders of operations, ratios, and conversions.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply basic principles of logical or scientific thinking situations encountered during the course of work in the QC department. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, mathematical equations, etc.,) in simple phases.

There is a risk of electrical shock if proper machinery procedures are not followed as well as the dangers of possible burns from chemicals, fires and combustion reactions as well as explosions. Safe work practices and proper handling are essential to the success of this position as well as the safety of all staff members of the laboratory.
