China poised to be world’s second biggest processing tomato producer

Tomato production has been reported for 144 countries, where China accounted for almost 25% of worldwide production in an upward trend that increases year on year. But while China is quickly gaining on Italy, as the world’s second-largest tomato producer for processing, reports said the world production of processing tomatoes experienced a continuous decline from 2009 to 2013. The decrease was from 42.3m tonnes to 33.2m tonnes last year. According to the earliest indications, the world consumption trend seems to have settled at 38 million tons. Is this the production forecast for 2014?
