Companies And Private Organizations Work Ensure Athletes Know What’s In Their Sports Supplements
As the 2014 MLB season begins, discussion of star players’ violations of MLB’s Joint Drug Agreement continue to make headlines. Companies and private organizations now work to ensure athletes and regular consumers know what’s in their supplements. As the sports supplement industry is largely unregulated, the question becomes, where do these athletes go to ensure that the supplements they are ingesting are not putting them at risk for violating MLB’s drug policy? NSF International, an organization founded in 1944 to develop public health standards and certification programs for protecting the world’s food, water, consumer products and environment, largely leads the helm.
