Experts slam omega-3 link to prostate cancer as ‘scaremongering’
Experts slammed claims linking omega-3 to prostate cancer. The claims have drawn widespread criticism for the way the observational study jumped into conclusions. Experts from GOED (The Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s) said that if such new claims were true, “then prostate cancer would be rampant in any country with high seafood consumption.” A high omega-3 status is linked to a lower incidence of many cancers – including prostate cancer. Dr. Michele Sadler, scientific adviser to the Health Food Manufacturer’s Association (HFMA), commented that because the study was not designed to investigate the role of omega-3 in prostate cancer, “no firm conclusions can be drawn.”
