Green Tea Polyphenols Are Bioactive When Consumed in Milk

It’s amazing that the milk we drink can serve as a protective carrier of bioactive molecules. A new research suggests milk as an effective delivery system for green tea polyphenols — keeping the polyphenols bioactive and enabling them to continue reducing cell proliferation particularly on specific cancer cells. In one experiment, human cancer cells were grown for 24 hours in the presence of the epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in milk. EGCG is the major catechin found in tea.  These results support a new role for milk that opens the door to a new generation of dairy products providing additional benefits to human health.
