Protein Still Sports Nutrition King, but Watch Out
While the subject of protein consumption often stirs up heated debate, experts consider protein still the sports nutrition king. However, market research predicts that non-protein category products will outgrow protein products in significant markets including Australia and Canada. Local sporting cultures, where endurance sports are very popular, will dictate consumer preferences, says Chris Schmidt, Euromonitor’s International Health Consumer Analyst. All-in-one pre-workout supplements are showing the most promise, providing both the convenience of a single serving combination products and advanced formulations; that hardcore users are seeking. Schmidt said mainstream launches are a key reason behind the forecast that protein products will outspace non-protein between 2013 and 2018 in the U.S.
