Vegetarian Softgels Frequently Asked Questions
Even though vegetarian softgels have been available for a while now, we still get a lot of questions from our clients about this product. We thought this frequently asked question list would help you understand more about our leading vegetarian softgels. You may also want to pass this onto your clients who have questions about vegetarian softgels.(Of course, if we haven’t answered all of your questions – don’t hesitate to contact us.)
How do the vegetarian softgels respond to temperature fluctuations?
Interestingly, we stumbled onto vegetarian softgels because we were looking at ways to improve on the heat and humidity stability of our animal-based soft gels. After extensive research and testing, we developed a softgel using carrageenan as the main stabilizer. Using this naturally occurring extract from seaweed, we learned we could provide a softgel that is not impacted by extremes in heat and humidity. Even at temperatures of 130 degrees Fahrenheit these softgels keep do not warp or suck up air from the atmosphere.
Can you tell me more about carrageenan?
Carrageenan is a seaweed extract that has the texture of gel. It is often used to thicken products such as soy milk, almond milk, yogurt and other pudding or creamy products. Because it is a seaweed extract it is naturally occurring and sustainably sourced. At Captek, we use carrageenan to provide you with a vegetarian softgel that utilizes SeaGel® Capsule Technology.
What other ingredients are used to create the vegetarian softgels?
To ensure that these gels remain rigid yet still gel-like, a combination of carrageenan, modified starch, cellulose, water, and plasticizing agents such as glycerin and sorbitol are used. We are able to provide vegetarian softgels in a range of shapes and sizes that have proven to be durable and popular with vegetarians and vegans.
Why should I provide vegetarian soft gels to my clients?
Because more and more people are transitioning to or have switched to a vegetarian or vegan diet – the market simply demands the availability of vegetarian softgels. These people still require supplements and they want these to also be vegetarian and/or vegan. It is particularly interesting to note that vegetarian softgels are becoming very popular in international markets such as Asia.
